Technique Classes T1: Learn to Knit This class is for those of you who have never picked up needles and yarn, or who may have learned as a child and forgotten everything. In the first class, you will learn to knit and bind off. Second class will include casting on, purling and reading a pattern. You should be able to knit up a scarf (yes, you will!) after leaving these classes, and maybe do some ribbing too. Instructor: Marta Bauer Class Fee: $55.00 (Includes yarn, needles & 4 hours of instruction.) Sessions: T2: Learn to Crochet All crochet stitches start from a basic chain that is in turn started with a slip knot. Once you know how to make a chain and work your way back along the chain you will know how to crochet. It's that simple, really! We will also learn the basic stitches of crochet: single, double, and triple crochet, with which you can make virtually any crochet project. Instructor: Heather VonMarko Class Fee: $55.00 (Includes Hook, yarn and 4 hours of instruction.) Session: T3: New Crochet stitch! Learn Zig-Zag! NEW CLASS Take this new skill and make a blanket, scarf or pillow! One session is all it takes to learn this fun new stitch! Students need to know the single, half double, and double stitches. Please bring worsted weight yarn in at least 2 different colors, and the corresponding hook ( G or H). Instructor: Heather VonMarko Class fee: $25.00 Session: T4: Technique EXTRAVAGANZA! This class teaches you various techniques including 3 different increases, 2 different decreases, cabling, I-cord, fringing a scarf, Michelle’s little secret for weaving in ends, and changing color. Students must come to class with the following materials and the following homework COMPLETED: Onto a size 7, 8, 9, or 10 needle, with solid-color worsted weight yarn, cast on 18 stitches and knit 5 rows. Also, please bring the following supplies: a cable needle, a set of double-pointed needles (any size larger than 6), and some extra stash yarn. Instructor: Michelle Tipton Class Fee: $25.00 Sessions: T5: Entrelac A unique "basket weave" pattern that looks really impressive, but is fun to knit! Learn the principles of this stitch, then make a gorgeous scarf in self striping yarn! Basic knitting and purling skills, increases and decreases are all you need. Please bring a pair of # 8 or 9 needles to practice on. We will supply scrap yarn to work the pattern in class, and you may choose a gorgeous self-striping yarn for your actual project afterwards. Instructor: Sue Caldwell Class Fee: $25.00 (Practice yarn included) Sessions: Sunday, November15 4:00 - 6:00 or Sunday, December 20 4:00 - 6:00 Project Classes for Beginner Knitters with some knitting experience: B1: Knit your First Hat Tired of making scarves? Yes, you can work in the round with a bulky yarn and knit your first hat! So cute for adults, kids, even babies. Basic knitting skills are all you need. We will show you how to join and work on circular needles, decrease and expand your repertoire from just scarves. Please bring a size 10 16” circular needle to class. Instructor: Michelle Tipton Class fee: $25.00 Sessions: B2: Beaded Scarf Ever wanted to try knitting with beads? This is the class for you. You will learn how to string and carry beads into your work, and create a beautiful gift. Make one as a gift and you’ll never give it away! People will be begging you for this one! Knitting, purling and long-tail casting on experience required for this class. Please bring size 5 needles with you to class. Note: Homework will be assigned before the class! Instructor: Judy Moskowitz Class fee: $35.00 includes beads Sessions: B3: Learn to knit Socks! Top Down Learn to knit your first pair of socks! Then make more for gifts! You will be learning to make socks on double pointed needles. This method is fun and easy, and socks are the perfect project for the knitter on the go! You will be making socks from the top down and learning to turn a heel and graft the toe together. Basic knitting and purling skills required. Note: Please come to class early to choose yarn, and bring size 3 double point needles to class. Instructor: Erin Cowling Class Fee: $60.00 (Includes 2 skeins of yarn!) Sessions: B4: Butterfly Baby Sweater Ready to knit your first baby sweater? This quick and easy garter-edged baby kimono is great for gift giving! Basic knitting and purling skills are all you need. You will learn how to seam, make the I-cord ties, pick up and knit, and follow this simple pattern to achieve adorable results. Please bring to class: 500 yards Dk yarn, size 3 straight or circular needle, 2 double-pointed size 3 needles. Instructor: Jill Friedman Class Fee: $50.00 (includes pattern and 4 hours of instruction) Sessions: B5: Angel Baby Sweater Create an adorable baby cardigan with only 2 small seams to sew! Not difficult, but requires some basic knitting knowledge. Knit in garter stitch, we will cover knitted cast-ons, short rows, eyelets and I-cord. An optional crochet picot edging will also be taught. Tired of making scarves? Had it with hats? Ready to move on to mittens? We will make a child's mitten to the end , and you will complete all the different techniques that go into making a mitten… Materials needed: At least 100 yards of worsted weight yarn, Straight needles sizes 5 and 7, Stitch markers,2 stitch holders and yarn needle. Class fee: $25.00 Instructor: Michelle Tipton Sessions: B7: One Piece Flying Geese Sweater NEW CLASS! Knit this great kids' sweater in one piece, pick up and add sleeves, and you're done! Two little seams and some simple patterning make this an EASY quick knit for the kid in your life. Please bring size 7 needles to class, and you will need approximately 400 - 600 yards of worsted yarn. *Note! Please measure the child you will be knitting for so we can customize the pattern to fit. This class will introduce beginning / intermediate students to several new techniques: provisional cast-ons, lace/cable charts and grafting / kitchener stitch. And at the end you will be well on your way to creating a beautiful cowl that would make a great Holiday gift for anyone on your list! Bring one skein (150 - 220 yds) of worsted weight yarn (solid or slightly tonal variegation recommended) and size 7/8 needles. 3 different styles of lace / cable charts will be provided Instructor: Erin Cowling Class fee: $25.00 Sessions: A2: Beaded Christmas Ornament! NEW CLASS! What to do with those extra little balls of fingering yarn left over? Make a gorgeous beaded Christmas ornament! What a clever use for your fingering yarn stash! These little balls are so fun And easy o make that you will want to make them for the whole family. Tie them on your gifts for an over-the –top holiday! Skills needed: knit, purl, kfb, using double-pointed needles. Please bring to class: 30 to 50 meters of fingering or DK yarn, size 5 DPNs, safety pin or locking marker, darning needle Instructor: Mary Skeen Class fee: $30.00 includes beads and one glass ornament! Sessions: A3: Great American Aran Afghan Confused by cables? Baffled by bobbles? Knit the Great American Aran Afghan and learn all the techniques that go into making those gorgeous sweaters. Knit one square a month for a total of 12 squares. Afraid of commitment—no problem! Join for only one or two squares and turn your squares into beautiful accent pillows or a scarf. We will be offering this class every month.
