Technique Classes

T1: Learn to Knit
This class is for those of you who have never picked up needles and yarn, or who may have learned as a child and forgotten
everything.  In the first class, you will learn to knit and bind off. Second class will include casting on, purling and reading a
pattern. You should be able to knit up a scarf (yes, you will!) after leaving these classes, and maybe do some ribbing too.

T2: Learn to Crochet
All crochet stitches start from a basic chain that is in turn started with a slip knot. Once you know how to make a chain and
work your way back along the chain you will know how to crochet. It's that simple, really! We will also learn the basic stitches of
crochet: single, double, and triple crochet, with which you can make virtually any crochet project.

T3: Technique EXTRAVAGANZA!  
This class teaches you various techniques including 3 different increases, 2 different decreases, cabling, I-cord, fringing a
scarf, Michelle’s little secret for weaving in ends, and changing color.
Students must come to class with the following materials and the following homework COMPLETED: Onto a size 7, 8, 9, or 10
needle, with solid-color worsted weight yarn, cast on 18 stitches and knit 5 rows. Also, please bring the following supplies: a
cable needle, a set of double-pointed needles (any size larger than 6), and some extra stash yarn.

T4: Foundation Single Crochet & Ribbing for Crochet   NEW CLASS!
Do you love crocheting, but hate starting a new project because of the chain? Too loose or too tight and it gives you no
idea what gauge you may be working with. Come learn foundation single crochet and work up the first two rows of many
projects in one step! You will also learn ribbing with crochet in this class. No longer do you need to envy knitters for this
exclusive trim! These are  two techniques that will change your life as a crocheter!
Only the most basic crocheting experience is necessary. Please bring some smooth yarn and the appropriate hook to class.

T5: Make your own Felt BEADS!   
Make these wonderful beads to string as a necklace, bracelet, or fabulous earrings! Learn the art of needle-felting in a
small project.   Felting is fun way to play with fiber, if you are knitting impaired or just want to try something different.  
Needle-felting beads out of  roving is a great starting point for any 3-D felting project.

Project classes for Crocheters:

C1:Easter Amigurumi: Sweet Eggs and Baby Chicks      NEW CLASS!
Come make some fun little eggs and chicks just in time for Easter baskets and mantel decorating!  We will learn to make one
chick and one two-part egg that opens to hold the chick.  Then take home the pattern and make a set for the little friends in
your life, or keep them all for yourself!  
Materials needed: one ball worsted weight in an egg shell color (white, off-white, light brown, light blue), and one ball worsted
weight in a chick color (yellow, gold, red, light brown), and a size E (3.5 mm) hook.  Eyes, beaks, embroidery floss and needles
will be provided for your use during class.  .

C2:Crochet Baby sweater with ribbing:      NEW CLASS!
Want to make a cute baby sweater for your cute baby? This is an easy project that works up fast and makes a GREAT gift!
You will even learn how to crochet ribbing! Single crochet, half double and double crochet are all you need to know.
Materials needed: 2 colors of worsted weight yarn, 200 yards each,  and an I9 hook.

Project Classes for Beginner Knitters with some knitting experience:

B1: Knit your First Hat
Tired of making scarves? Yes, you can work in the round with a bulky yarn and knit your first hat! So cute for adults, kids,
even babies.   Basic knitting skills are all you need. We will show you how to join and work on circular needles, decrease and
expand your repertoire from just scarves. Please bring a size 10 16” circular needle to class.

B2:  Beaded Scarf
Ever wanted to try knitting with beads? This is the class for you. You will learn how to string and carry beads into your work,
and create a beautiful gift. Make one as a gift and you’ll never give it away! People will be begging you for this one! Knitting,
purling and long-tail casting on experience required for this class. Please bring size 5 needles with you to class. Note:
Homework will be assigned before the class!

B3: Learn to knit Socks! Top Down
Learn to knit your first pair of socks! Then make more for gifts! You will be learning to make socks on two circular needles.
This method is fun and easy, and socks are the perfect project for the knitter on the go! You will be making socks from the top
down and learning to turn a heel and graft the toe together. Basic knitting and purling skills required. Note: Please come to
class early to choose yarn, and bring 2 size 3 circular needles to class.

B4: Garter edge shawl!  NEW CLASS!
Knit this gorgeous shawl in bulky yarn , with the edge knitted in as you go! A beautiful swirl-shape that is quick and easy to do
using short-row shaping! Basic Knitting skills are all you need, and you can make this in wool for a warm winter coverup or in a
cotton for breezy Summer nights. Please bring or purchase 400 yards of bulky yarn, and a size 13 circular needle to class.

B5: Airy Lace Scarf     NEW CLASS!
Show off spring knitting with this lacy lightweight scarf. This simple, elegant pattern will be taught in fingering weight, but  works
with any weight and is great with colorful yarn! Lace can be fun instead of intimidating, and you will learn  single and double
yarnovers (YO's) , as well as how to drop stitches and to decrease on knit and purl stitches. Skills needed are knit, purl,
casting on and binding off. Please bring size 6 needles to class, and about 300 yards of fingering weight yarn..

B6: Feather and Fan neckerchief      NEW  CLASS!
Need to add something bold and cute to your accessories?  Add some color and texture to your wardrobe by knitting this
triangular kerchief (or shawl) out of variegated sock yarn in this popular wavy stitch. All you need to know is knit and purl. You
can create this beautiful pattern small enough to tie around your neck or large enough to wrap up in on cooler days. You will
learn YO (yarn over) increases and a couple of decreases as well. Please bring a size 6 circular needle and about 200 yards
of your favorite sock yarn to class.

B7: Design your own Scarf!       NEW CLASS!
So , you have yarn you don’t know what to do with. Create a beautiful scarf that you designed yourself! We will go over yarn
selection, pattern stitches and embellishment. Bring some old costume jewelry and we will incorporate it into your project! Then
when people ask where you got your scarf, you say “oh, I just designed it myself.” Wow!
Students must have basic knitting, purling, increasing and decreasing skills.  Please bring lined or graph paper, a pencil, and
needles in the size appropriate for your yarn.

B8: Easy booties in two hours!    Back by popular demand!
Knit these cute booties in no time at all. It's the greatest pattern: just tricky enough to be good for beginners. Learn yarn-
overs, knitting 2 together and purling 2 together. Then make a bunch for all the babies in your life. Please bring size 5 or 6
needles to class and pick worsted or sport yarn before class starts.

Project Classes for knitters with intermediate skills:
          
A1: Entrelac
A unique "basket weave" pattern that looks really impressive, but is fun to knit! Learn the principles of this stitch, then make a
gorgeous scarf  in self striping yarn!  Basic knitting and purling skills, and increase and decreases are all you need. Please
bring a pair of # 8 or 9 needles to practice on. We will supply scrap yarn to work the pattern in class, and you may choose a
gorgeous self-striping yarn for your actual project afterwards.
